The book I have chosen to read is titled Warhammer 40,000: Rynn’s World. Even though I am not to far into the story because I flipped in between a couple different books trying to find one i'd both enjoy and be able to write a decent amount about I am VERY impressed so far. Right now in the novel a space marine FOB or Forward Operating Base is under siege by the orc army known as the Greenskins, they were unprepared for the blind sided attack. They hit the base with a salvo of repeated artillery strikes on the compound's most valuable buildings crippling its defenses and killing its ranking commanding officers. The marines only have one option, to send a distress call to the nearby space marine division that go by the name the Crimson Fist based out of New Rynn City, the signal they send to the marines is to tell them that what's left of the bases occupants is to retreat to a series of caves under the mountain range and attempt to make a final stand against the pushing orc forces and to send a dispatch unit to help the marines, and that if they don't hold them here they will keep moving forward and overrun New Rynn City….The transmission never reached the Crimson Fist.
Many people i'm sure have many different opinions on how they would handle the situation the marines were tasked with...surviving, whether it be to immediately pull back and join the Crimson Fist and take the Orcs out together in one foul swoop or to fight back and hope you can out last the Orc troops. Personally if i was the commanding officer of the Forward operating base I would combine the two methods of survival. I would have sent some form of a runner to the Crimson Fist who in the story they say are only a 2 days march from the base, while me and the other men hold the Orcs until then, instead of waiting until there is only a handful of men trying to hold off an army in hopes that a transmission gets to the house of the Crimson Fist but more than likely the Orcs would have taken out any communication tower so me and my men couldn't call for help and would be stranded. There truly are a variety of options a military leader would have in this situation but I assume it's more of a you'd have to be there type of thing.
I know some people may look at what I have written today and think “ Wow this kid is weird I mean who likes this stuff.” and I understand this style of writing and topic my only interest a select group of people. This novel may be more appealing to the person who maybe has a military background and understands these situations I mean outside of the Orcs and space themed battlegrounds of course, or maybe you have some dream of being a tactician in the military. Or maybe you just enjoy these types of novels like me. No matter why you like these novels and topics I strongly suggest this book and i can only think about what stories and adventures may be in the books ahead in the series.
Hey John i really liked your blog. If i was the marines first i would have immediately evacuated the fob then i would have flanked the greenskins as they tried to raid the fob, therefore securing the fob. After flanking i would have immediately attacked the greenskins closet base since they would not be ready. I also like how you talk about what you would have done.
ReplyDeleteI figured youd be one of the ones who would have an opinon on this considering you are into the military and stratagy like I am. Thanks for youre imput I never thought of a counter attack as an option, I like the element of suprise and youre idea might just have worked. Thank you for the comment I hope you continue to read my blog as I will yours
DeleteThat seems like an interesting book. It sounds as if there's no dull moments in this book and that its all about action and adventure. That the only point where its not action is when theyre planning it out hiding from the enemy. That its in space and set to futuristic stand points that make you wonder if this is even possible. so from this blog I got a book that i would probably read.
ReplyDeleteHey John you have a pretty good post and it's really fascinating. I've never read any book of this kind before and it really educated my knowledge of the types of book that I don't know about. Next time if you could use a little more of what we used in class though I think that would make this post 10x better. K bye.

ReplyDeleteHey John you have a really interesting blog post. This book really seems like it is filled with action and adventure. I do have a question on if the FOB were really prepared in case that they were going to be attacked.
ReplyDeleteNo they werent prepeared at all it was more of a blind sided hit by the orcs who are trying completely wipe out any big time Space Marine chapters that can really pose a threat to them. If you are really interseted in the book I dont mind giving you one of the ealier ones in the series, I think youd really like it. Thank you for the comment and I hope you continue to read my blog.

ReplyDeleteI never ear a book like this or never thought it would catch my interest, but from your blog the amount of details and enthusiasm you put into the book really caught my attention. I like how you explained the book very well and used a video to help the readers get a better idea.
ReplyDeleteSeeing some similarities between your book and mine, seeing as though they are both about space marines. Power armor, battles and all, this blog is very well thought out and written. i enjoy the details within the blog and hope that you read mine as well.
